The Beautiful Blue Jay

Next week I will be telling the oral story The Beautiful Blue Jay. Perfect for Spring!

Creative authors!

A lot of the children in the class have become inspired to create their own books!

Home

Here is a nest for a bluebird
Here is a hive for a bee
Here is a hole for a bunny
And here is a house for me

Our Spring Walk

On our Spring walk, we looked for many signs of Spring....

And we created a Spring Mural afterwards

Meshing!

They also have been working on meshing - which is like sewing/weaving on a grid....

our handwork

Check out the weaving and felted hearts the class made!

Scientists in the Schools

The children had so much fun being scientists and conducting so many different experiments. They were paleontologists, marine biologists, astronomers, chemists and more....

More Outdoor Play and Learning with Loose Parts!

The children continue to have a great time playing with the loose parts during our play outside in the mornings. They create such interesting structures and are learning so much about working together!

Measurement

We have moved on from patterning and are now looking at how to measure things. We are first looking at the bigger concept of size - thinking of things that are big and small - and what that means - How can we describe things that are big and small? For example, we can say something big may be long or tall, or we can say something small may be short or thin. We will continue to look at measurement of a variety of things. We will ask questions such as, how can we measure things, or look at comparing two different things....

Patterns patterns everywhere

Patterns patterns everywhere
Patterns we can see
Patterns on the ______________
And patterns on me!

The children recited this poem lots during our patterning unit! They observed many patterns outside and inside, on clothes and on furniture and on themselves! The created and extended patterns using manipulatives, letters and numbers and body movements. They are great pattern makers!
